Oscar's Fields

I think you all know by now how much Oscar loved his almost daily visits to his beloved Seven Fields. No matter how many times we went, rain, wind, snow or shine, he never seemed to tire of running around there either on his own or with friends old and new, with or without a ball or tasty stickie. Here are some of our favourite photos of Oscar doing his thing there. It is nice to think that a little bit of him still lives on in the fields he loved so much.

I have also tried to add some videos of Oscar playing at Seven Fields here which were saved in Video Egg, but they are appearing as black boxes and won't play. Maybe there's a blip with the site. I'll try again later.

Katy,

It's all a matter of perspective -- a little puncture on the cheek and a collar for a few weeks doesn't begin to compare with what you;ve experienced.

Thank you for stopping by -- we come visit often and love the Seven Fields images.

Thanks for your lovely message! I found your blog on the day you had to break your terrible news, and felt so sorry for what was happening to you. Oscar was such a fantastic boy, too. The worldwide support for you took my breath away.
We're only down in Devon so just a stone's throw away. And thanks for the tip on the WESWATC - I must get in touch with them.

Thanks so much for posting those great photos of Oscar enjoying Seven Fields. It reminds me of my boys and their beloved Marymoor Dog Park. He was a very happy doggy and so very much loved. That is obvious. You are wonderful dog parents and we all hope that someday you will be able to provide a loving home for another dog who needs you so much.

We still think about Oscar every day and we realize that every day that we are together is a precious gift.

Dear Katy and Martin,

I have been a little AWOL with my blog visting and only now read the terrible news. My deepest sympathies to you both. You were oustanding parents and Oscar seemed like a very happy dog.

Only other pet owners can understand that losing a pet is like losing a family member.

I had a Cockatiel (Sweetie-Pie)for 15 years. He was the sweetest most communicative little bird and was the love of my life. When he died I was quite at a loss. I even dreamed about him off and on for months. Funny, I too buried him in the backyard and planted Rose bush above him.

I later read a book titled "Animals as Guides for the Soul" (Susan Chernak McElroy). There was a story in it about losing our pets. The story had a line in it that said something like this "Our pets leave us when they know we are ready to turn the corner on our own." I'm not sure if that is applicable in any way to your experience, but, at the time it made sense in my life and made me feel like he was watching over me somehow.

I also believe that we will all be reunited somewhere, sometime - how could it be any other way?

Be well and please keep blogging.

~Sending Love and Compassion your way Katy and Martin~

A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.

Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring, it was peace.

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

Pippin: I didn’t think it would end this way.
Gandalf: End? No, the journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another path . . . one that we must all take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass…
Gandalf: …And then you see it.
Pippin: What, Gandalf? See what?
Gandalf: White shores . . . and beyond. A far green country, under a swift sunrise.
Pippin: Well, that isn’t so bad.
Gandalf: [Softly:] No… No it isn’t.

Oh my gosh, Katy, I still get tears in my eyes every time I think about Oscar. It's amazing to me how much we seem to bond with these beasts we've never had the chance to meet in person (or in dog, as the case may be). My heart is still breaking for you guys, but it sounds like you are working your way through your grief. I hope there is a predecessor to Oscar sometime in your future. You both seem like amazing, dog loving people. That rose bush will be beautiful!

That park looks lovely. No wonder why he wanted to run around in it so much!

My mom said she just got back from your country...England, or something like that. And she said it was beautiful. She went all over from Manchester, to Stoke on Trent, to Birmingham, to Stratford On Avon, to Buckinghamshire to London and even Conwy, Wales! And she left me at home! I really wanted to see where Oscar played! But mom just wanted me to tell you that you live in a really pretty country :)
