Bye Bye Our Darling Baby Oscar

I am heartbroken to tell you that Oscar died at around 11am this morning as they sedated him to try to operate to see what was happening to him. We opted not to put him through an autopsy, but pancreatitis or a blockage is most likely. We went to sit with him afterwards and he looked very peaceful.

Thank you for all your well wishes, Oscar must have been one of the most loved dogs on the planet.

We simply do not know what we will do without him.

Run free our sweet darling boy.

(I am a human reader who loves to look at Oscar's blog and think of the Airedales I had growing up). I am so, so sorry to hear this sad news. I have been in tears since I read it.
Although his life ended too soon, in that short time Oscar brought joy and smiles to so many people around the world. It always brightened my day to see him and his airedale antics (like sitting on the back of the couch). You gave him such a great life and he definitely knew how loved he was --that comes through in every picture.
I will miss him.
My deepest condolences,

Dearest Katy and Martin,

We are sitting here just streaming tears. Bogart messaged us this morning to let us know, and we cannot believe it. Oscar was such a bright light, and our very first online dog friend, and just a puppy! It must be awful to be surrounded by his toys and missing him. All of us here will miss him, and his stickies and videos, so very much.

Please take lots of time to miss him, and ignore anyone who tells you you shouldn't mourn so much because he was a dog. He wasn't a dog, he was Oscar, and he was the very best Oscar in the whole world. We wish there was something we could do.

Nanook and Pooka are sending you their snuggliest and warmest newfie leans...the one where they plant their behind on your feet so you can't get away and then LEAN on your legs for scratches. They know it always cheers me up, and they hope it will make you feel a little fuzzy. Our thoughts are all with you and Martin.

Dear Katy and Martin,

I just stumbled on the RIP for Oscar on Jackson's page and rushed over to see what happened. We've only known him for a few weeks but he was such a sweetie, so full of fun and adventure, and so welcoming to my guys. He left a note just two days ago.

We are so sad for you -- it's one of life's miracles that, even if you've never met the person or the dog, your heart breaks when you hear he is sick or has left this earth and you feel his loved ones' grief. Perhaps the story of the Rainbow Bridge will help you in your sorrow: I suspect Oscar has already made lots and lots of friends there, is running free, and is telling them about the wonderful life he led with you. And then too he'll find Jake the Rescue Lab who just died this week too.

Jake and Just Harry have a few wire fox terrier friends who are there also, and I know how Oscar enjoyed his wft pals.

Please stay in touch with us.

With loving thoughts,

Hi Katy and Mrtin,
I do not even know how to bring myself to comprehend that our dear Oscar had gone to the Rainbow Bridge so suddenly. I mean he was just so 'normal' when I watched that video of him playing in the yard with Martin and we were laughing at his puppy-ish pouncing. He was such a sweet and intelligent boy and we always love the comments that he'd leave at our blog.
Farewell sweet Osar.. we'll all miss you so much. Till we meet again my friend.

XOXO,

Katy & Martin,

I am so so so very shocked to hear this. I thought he would make it but unfortunately he did not. I am in tears & was very shocked when I heard the news from my mommy, who she heard from Boo's mom at a Pet Store today this afternoon. This is sooo sudden! I never even thought in my wildest dreams he would leave us so fast in such a young age. My mommy, I & my other two sistas are in tears right now. Even my mommy's mom was shocked to hear this news! I'm still wondering what caused his blockage...And mommy just sent the sketching of him two days ago & it didn't even reached to your house before he left. He didn't even get a chance to see it. I'm sooo very heartbroken to hear this eventho we both just met just a few months back. *sigh* Well, I just hope he is free from his pain now & is running free up high in heaven. He was like a family member to us all dogs. RIP my pal! We WILL all miss you forever!

We will miss him very much. Our thoughts are with you both.

OMG Oscar,
I was just getting to know you and your blog and this devastating news occurs. I’ll go ahead a jump to the angry faze of grieving. Its not just not fair, it shouldn’t have happened. You were such a good dog – you could tell you family loved you dearly and your were leading an excellent life here on earth. Teaching people there is joy in living. Its just not right as I pound my fist and wipe my tears.

I do worry about them - altho I have no short-term answers on how to get thru this. Only time will get them thru this and even then, well, there will be times that time doesn’t always help either.

I lost both my elder Airedales in the last year and I know they will be at the gates waiting to welcome one of their own to their new found ‘dale haven. Seek out my happy boy Buster first, for he was very similar to you – “I’m so happy – so you are happy too.” Then my Moxie will appear, a bit alpha b*tchy at first, but don’t be afraid, because all in all she’ll take deep pride in mothering and protecting you, because that’s what she liked to do.

Tears flow for you and your family. It will be harder than one thinks it could ever be for both you and your family – but know that we all care and we’ll be here for all of you.

Kath-
Moxie & Buster (RIP their mischievous souls.)

Dear Katy and Martin,(we tried sending this on your email, but it didn't work)

George and I have spent the last hours looking at Oscar's blog...we are so sorry for your loss and sorrow. Oscar was so loved by you (and all of us). You gave him the most wonderful life..thank you for sharing it with all of us..we also share your feeling of loss. His life was much too short, but what a life..running in beautiful fields, lots of friends to play with, his many triumphs in classes you took him to, and most of all the all enveloping love you gave him. There was a lifetime packed into his sweet puppy life. Oscar was a very happy Puppy, and that was due to your love..try to take some measure of comfort in that. We love you and want you to know we'll never forget him.
Please tell us if there's anything we can do to ease you pain. Asta has refused her lunch, and is just lying on the sofa..I thinks she knows.
love to you both, and from Asta smoochie kisses for your tears

There's a new star in the sky this year,
It's my best friend who I wish was here,
but I reached into the sky last tonight,
I borrowed my star that shines so bright,
I brought him back into my home,
and we spent a little time alone,
in the morning he said he must be gone,
so he can shine on everyone. VH

Keep shining Oscar!

Dear Katy - thank you so much for your kind words on my Blog today. Really cheered me up, I feel guilty as I have no right to be so "blue", you are in the darkest place at the moment. But I guess poor Oscar's passing, so sudden and so young, brings back other sad memories as well of other times......

I felt well ashamed of myself for being such a wimp, and Marvin has told me off in no uncertain fashion.

In honour of Oscar we will keep on blogging, and I hope we manage to bring some sunlight into your lives.

I think I felt unable to be "amusing" or post funny pics while things are so bad for you. Your kind words reassured me.

take care and know you have been so much in our thoughts this terrible weekend.
