WESWATC Fun Day 2007

On Sunday after lots of indecision, we decided we would go along to the WESWATC annual fun day. We had planned to go with Oscar, and we decided it would still be nice to go and see his friends.

We arrived in time to see the egg and spoon races. In this photo you can see from left to right Mojo and her dad, Russell, another Oscar, Archie and Willow.

Here is Oscar's good pal Archie. They met up at grooming, walks and other club events and got up to all kinds of mischief together. You can't really see too well, but he's wearing his polka dot bandanna from Oscar.

This little cutie pie is Ruby. She was a darling. She's been very poorly so is a bit small and skinny for her age, but she still had great time, not letting anything hold her back in true Airedale style. I had lots of cuddles.

She almost fell asleep on my lap. She had the sweetest fuzzy little face. Hopefully now her medication is sorted out, she'll stay healthy and happy.

We took E and J with us, and they really enjoyed playing with all the Dales. Here's J getting Ruby to sit for a treat. I think they are now quite excited about our new puppy after being quite upset and confused about Oscar's death.

The mummy dog game is a popular one. Basically you have to wrap your dog in as much toilet roll as possible in 2 minutes. Little Willow was quite relaxed about it all.

Her big brother Jasper looked a little embarrassed about it all.

And feisty young miss Mojo was having none of it. As soon as her dad got one piece wrapped around her, she whipped round and tore it off. They eventually managed to get some on her tail in a last ditch attempt!

We took Oscar's cowboy outfit along, as we had had it made for him by Butchy and Snickers' mum to wear today. We asked Mojo's mum and dad if she'd like to wear it in his honour. Even though it was very large for her, she still managed to carry it off with a certain je ne sais quoi and scooped 3rd prize.

There was some pretty stiff competition for the title as you can see. Bob Marley Dale.

Oscar's pal Rupert dressed as his namesake Rupert the Bear

Pirates of the Caribbean must be popular amongst Airedales as there we two Pirates present.

I'm not quite sure what this guy was trying to be, but he seemed quite impressed with his outfit despite looking a bit silly.

Jasper made a very handsome groom.

And Willow was a beautiful bride, though it looks as if marital bliss could be over already as Jasper is about to wrassle her to the floor!

There was much more fun to be had, with competitions for best groomed Airedale and best trick, an Airegility course to try, a sausage hunt, musical chairs and quizzes for the humans. E & J won the "guess whats in the poop bags" quiz. Luckily there was no poop, just doggy related stuff like leads and whistles!

***********************************************************************************

We took Oscar last year. He had only been living with us for a week. He had a blast, though last year there were no other puppies to play with. This meant he got everyone cooing all over him with no competition! Although the youngest by a long way, he was already showing his potential, and won first prize in the "best trick" competition with a "roll over" and a "shake paw".

Here's the group photo from last year. Can you spot little Oscar?

Here we are playing musical chairs. Silly? Yes. Good fun? Definitely!

Oscar was far more interested in trying to sniff the other contestants than playing the game!

He took everything in his stride though, not being fazed that all the other Dales were a lot bigger than him.

This was our attempt at the mummy game. Not bad I don't think, though poor Oscar does look a bit like he's got a huge nappy (diaper) on, bless him!

Tough as it was to go without Oscar and seeing all those Dales, I'm also happy that we got to see all his pals having fun. We also got to chat with Oscar's breeder about the puppies. All being well we can go and visit Cassidy and the others on the weekend of the 29th/30th of September when they'll be 3 weeks old.

It must have been quite difficult to decide to go to that event. Not something I think I would have been able to do.

Isn't Oscar tiny in those older photos? I remember him looking enormous on the sofa pics so they were a bit of a surprise.

Hope the trip to see Cassidy (whichever pup it turns out to be) goes well.

Katy & Martin,

It's great that you went. Although it sounded like it was hard for you to go, it sounds like everyone was happy to see you

Definitely take your camera to the breeders when you go see Cassidy! Will you know by then which one IS Cassidy?

Goober love,
Stanley

I know you both had a hard decision to make on going to the event. I am glad to see that you did go. That mummy game looks fun! I am not sure I would find it as fun if mom did that to me. Humm! She better not get any ideas. Anyroo, exciting about you going to see Cassidy. I hope you can take a few photos of her so we can get a first look ;)

It's so strange seeing pictures of Oscar at the same place we've just been, and for him not to be there. but just think, next year Cassidy will be the young pupster and I'll be a boring grown up girly.

I love your pictures! All those pirate costumes reminded me of when they all started barking at once, all the pirates together. And it wasn't even International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

and that shot of Jasper launching himself on Willow is hysterical!

Glad you caught a pic of my fuzzy butt, though. I do like to think it is rather special.

I think I see Oscar in the picture. I'm guessing you guys were in the middle on the group with the shorty Oscar, hehe! Wow! I'm impressed with all the costumes the hoomans came up with... Yeah, I not sure too what that Airedale boy in that red costume was trying to be. I think it's his raincoat! Jasper looks very handsome in that costume & poor Willow. I hope her dress did not have any paw marks on it after that, heehee... What a great day it was! I bet Cassidy would love participating all these fun but silly games too. Oscar will be soooo proud of her/him if she won any...

Oh Oh, now muzzer is off on an airedale kick, and it is mostly your fault. We are glad you got to go, and think it was a brave and healing thing to do, for you and the other dales and owners.

When you go to see the puppies, can you give me warning so I can keep muzzer away from the blog for a while. Those puppy pictures are gonna net me a new bruzzer if I am not careful!

Hi Katy,

Thanks for dropping by at 'our place'. It is hard sometimes, walking at all the places I used to walk with Prince, but I tend to find that Tillys joy and exhuberance at being there tends to dry the tears. I'm very aware of Prince trotting next to her at times, and also feel that the last thing he'd want would be for me to be miserable whilst walking somewhere he loved. I'm sure you'll find it hard at times, but with a new puppy exhausting and delighting you, and Oscar lending a 'guiding paw', I'm sure you'll do just fine!

Take care,

Graham, Prince & Tilly xxx.

Hi Katy & Martin,

Thanks for stopping by my blog last week. I'm happy that you decided to go to the fun day. Although it was difficult to go, it was nice to see it brought back the memories of last years fun day with Oscar! After reading the older posts on your blog, I see that Oscar was loved more than any dog I know. He may have crossed the rainbow bridge, but he will live on forever in your hearts and the hearts of everyone who enjoyed his blog.
My mom and I can't wait to see your pictures of Cassidy. Mom says Airedale people just can't stay away from the 'dales. Keep us up to date on Cassidy (he/she), we can't wait for more details!

Aire hugs & kisses,

Kirby & mom Kirstin

Additionally, never help to make almost any blatant responses related to the woman race,
such a because "I rarely like dark women, but they're alluring. Though Romney had forgotten about the unwelcome haircut, he apologized anyway after the muckraking Washington Post, figurative sharpened hatchet in hand, rooted out the story by contacting an old Mitt buddy almost half a century later. goes wrong irrespective of who caused it, the woman hopes you would be there to guide her steps, or what else do you think is taking responsibility.
